Our last full day of hiking. A but of a climb out of Bärnstatt after getting dropped off at 8.30. Then some very nice cruising trail for the morning. Good views down to Hintersee and a huge pile of pine needles built by industrious ants. Before we knew it we were at the top of the climb and enjoying the view. The. A decent to a hut for lunch with great cheese spätzle. A few more hours of walking in the fairly warm afternoon and we were happy to get to our last hut.
The owner is very welcoming and gets us cold drinks before checking us in. This is the end of our hiking. 420km of biking, 155km of hiking and 30 days underways so far. It’s been a great trip and we still have a week of touristing Austria and Germany left.
After today we head down to Kustein to catch a train for a few days in Salzburg for sightseeing and a surprise visit with Sara’s upcoming German host family. They are driving out to spend 2 days with us in order to meet Sara and get to know us. Sara will be in Germany for her 11th grade school year. The organization has already paired her with a family who has been hosting kids for 10 years. They are pros at this!
