Day 1: Back in the saddle again

Great night sleep last night! Everyone made it to 7 am when we were all up and going. We did some final rearranging and culling of things we felt we could leave behind (as we say, you carry your weight where your fears are and apparently Sara is afraid of not looking cute this trip and I'm afraid of the bikes breaking down!). Since we will be returning to the same place for a night at the end, it has that luxury!

A nice breakfast with a German couple, some last minute rearranging and pannier fitting and a few photos and we were off. GianLuca was kind enough to take some photos of us as we set off around 9.30 am.

The morning was pretty easy riding, but complex directions as we followed the I1 cycle route through Mestre, the town on the mainland near Venice. We are using Komoot for directions and it worked quite well with turn by turn directions. And I only think I lost crystal twice today! Also room to improve…

Just as we were starting to feel the need for food a restaurant appeared and it was even open! We ordered the 'workers menu' which was 3 courses (pasta, meat/main, and a salad/vegetables); excellent, fast and affordable!

After the energy refill we saddled back up for the remaining 22 km and arrived at our agritourissmo B&B (code for an old farm house with a few rooms, but we are surrounded by vineyards and lots of dogs and cats!) The wind was blowing pretty good (17 mph) but on the first day everyone is too excited for it to bother us!

Everyone is happy, healthy and ready for a long day tomorrow (73 km to beach side camping. They don't take reservations so we hope it works out!)
