Day 10 Bike, Ford, Climb

What a day! We started the morning with an incredible breakfast of homemade jams, eggs and bread from the vineyard Sefan Stanfel where we stayed last night. Then after 40 km and a massive climb to the ancient walled village of Vipavski Kris where we were rewarded with lunch of a charcuterie board of meats, cheeses, olives and olive oil all from the immediate Vipanava valley. We are now on the Slovenia Green Gourmet cycling route and the local gourmet cuisine, wines, and landscapes are truly exquisite.

The people are warm, calm and welcoming almost everywhere we’ve been. Today had its share of physical challenges with some long, hot, steep climbs and unexpected river crossings. But, the rewards of being offered a glass of cold white wine poured straight from the vat in the cellar and sipping while looking over the terraced slopes of the Vipava valley more than make up for the struggles.
