Day 2 Firenze take 2
Our last day in Florence was supposed to be relaxed and simple. We decided we wanted to get in to the Accademia to see David, and we were able to get tickets for a 4 pm slot. We were all up and moving by 8 am and out for breakfast by 9 am. Amazing espresso all around and then we ran to Boboli gardens and enjoyed a pleasant walk in the shade followed by a quick pass through Pitti museum. Then lunch at the Florence market and some shopping for a dress for Sara (largely unsuccessful).
Before we knew it we had been out all day it was already time for the Accademia! We enjoyed the massive David statue and I was embarrassed that I hadn’t realized it was the David that slayed Goliath until I saw the sling and the rock in his hand and put it together. I can’t imagine how big Goliath would have been if scaled to David’s size of 17 feet! He was much larger than I anticipated in person.
Off to dinner at an Osteria and then off to Lucca tomorrow am.
